Web hosting shared server - best uptime - price not an issue

Old Yesterday, 11:38 PM I'm looking for a recommendation for a web host.

I'm hosting my first website. It is for a small business. They are an authorized Ricoh dealership, selling copiers / printers. The website will not receive much traffic. Right now they get about 500 visits / week, and I'm hoping to get that up to 5,000 visits / week. There's no international traffic, and a majority of the traffic will be from local customers in the Eastern PA area.

The site will let you browse a product catalog, download brochures from the host server, view embedded youtube videos, send emails through contact forms, etc. I'm using PHP and HTML5. I have about 250 MB of content so far, and at the most I will have about 2 GB. I don't need email or anything other than web hosting. I don't really want to use VPS or use a command line for anything. A simple shared server where I can easily upload files through a web interface is perfect.

My top priority is uptime. I'm looking for 99.9% uptime, especially during peak hours of 8am - 5pm EST. Price is not an issue. I'm looking for a high quality shared server. I'm looking for an FTP file manager that doesn't constantly crap out on me (re: my experience with GoDaddy) I'm only using one domain name. There seems to be many options, and my google search results for top web hosting seems to only return advertisements.

Thanks!

Old Today, 12:14 AM Searching top web hosting will often give you only advertisments, unfortunately.
Your server requirements are not so big - make sure you check the offers forum over here at WHT, search for reviews here, and good luck in your search!

Reply With Quote Old Today, 12:53 AM Go to http://www.fluidhosting.com/ ... I've been on a shared server there for 10 years this month... they are a little bit higher than some, but it is worth it. I don't worry about my websites.

Reply With Quote Old Today, 02:37 AM I can recommend HawkHost for your services based off what I've read. Their uptime has held strong for my website for almost five years now.

Their packages and pricing per are reasonable in the industry and they've most certainly held their own.

Support wise, I cannot really comment on as I have yet to utilize them. Based off other results though I could judge that they'll at least attempt to rectify any problems that might occur.

Give their Sales team a shout.

Honestly speaking, Uptime cannot be guaranteed in anyway. Servers can go down! At any time! What matters, how providers can minimize it. By close monitoring and proper management.

Instead of leaning too much on judging a company uptime (since most will have a respectable uptime) take a look at other parameters like Support.

Reply With Quote Old Today, 07:31 AM You could try HostGator - while I'm not a fan of these big companies, their hosting is rock solid. At least it was last time I used it a few years ago.
A Small Orange is another option, they're very expensive though.
Reply With Quote Old Today, 10:47 AM If price is not an issue you might want to look into a fully managed vps or dedicated server as well.

Offshore shared hosting

Old Yesterday, 09:14 PM You really need to speak with some hosts and ask them. There are hosts in the US that will happily host your site and only ask that you follow DMCA, and there are hosts in some other places mentioned (Sweden, Netherlands) that will actively monitor your site and kick you off the moment your links go up. Only the host can answer these questions.

wow, some hosts do actively monitor peoples sites thats just...

thank you so much for replying , you guys are awesome

Reply With Quote Old Yesterday, 09:29 PM The link is an example of what you could write, if you wanted to use that. That is what you should ask, yes.

so where do people normally put the DMCA disclaimer thing, on the bottom/footer of the website.

BTW, any good hosts recommendations?

Reply With Quote Old Yesterday, 09:41 PM You would want the disclaimer to be a page that has an "ok" option before they can continue to the page with the links. At least that is how I would do it.

Not sure what your budget is like, but you might want to consult a lawyer before venturing into this. There are copyright lawyers all over the place, and they may we willing to give you some quick advise free of charge over the phone. Most will if you just have a question or two.

Reply With Quote Old Yesterday, 09:43 PM My 2 cents, in the end of the day, if you get a large number of complaints you will need to take the links down even if the actual files are stored og third party file hosts.
Reply With Quote Old Yesterday, 09:44 PM We have hosted a couple bit torrent search sites over the years. I can't say they were ever threatened. I know we never received any notices about their sites. Similar to what you are looking to do.
