Sick of 2MHost - Need a Reliable Business Host

Old Today, 12:53 PM We've been with 2MHost for over 3 years and they have become a joke.

We've had our entire website and emails blocked by anyone on the AT&T network. Anyone on ATT DSL, iPhones, U-Verse, etc - no one could access our site and 2MHost would not do anything about it.

We are supposed to be on a "Business" plan which limits the server to 100 accounts. However, about every 4 days our server is being blacklisted and our emails blocked to clients.

2MHost staff has repeatedly sent "test" emails to our clients without telling us - even after we've asked them not to. They have no right to email people from our email addresses but they keep doing it.

Their staff is incompetent. I try to chat with them online and ask why we keep having these problems. Their solution is to tell me to make sure we have passwords that can't be guessed - even though we are in NO way responsible for getting the server blacklisted.

So, now the question is, where do we go? We have a simple website with a Wordpress blog. No e-commerce, just a professional service business. The usual things are of importance to us: up-time, speed, and being able to send emails (unlike with 2Mhost).

Old Today, 12:55 PM It sounds like they have some abusers on their server..
If they won't help, be sure to check the offers section here at WHT, you should be able to find something to fit your needs. How many emails do you send?

Reply With Quote Old Today, 12:58 PM They *should* be able to easily identify which mails are causing the blacklists. Even if they can fix it, it is good that you are looking to switch - sending emails to your clients without your permission is simply not acceptable.

Reply With Quote Old Today, 01:19 PM I changed to a dedicated IP 2 weeks ago after AT&T blocked everything. It fixed the issue with AT&T but now we are still getting "blocked for abuse" or "spam" bouncebacks.
Reply With Quote Old Today, 02:05 PM 2MHost is so incompetent. I was blocked by anyone using GoDaddy for email/hosting today and 2mhost kept telling me my IP was not blocked and sent me a screenshot.

Turns out I was in fact blocked and email was being sent from a different IP address than what 2mhost was showing. They don't even know what IP address emails are sent from for their own clients.

What a joke.

I had to call GoDaddy and spend 30 minutes figuring it out. Would still appreciate any suggestions for hosting.

Reply With Quote Old Today, 02:10 PM Ask, what may I do for others?Hi capital. First thing's first, welcome to WHT!

Second, we'll need:
Traffic stats if you have any (uniques and/or total hits per day)
Storage
Monthly Bandwidth/Transfer
# of Domains
Windows or Linux
Control Panel Preference (if any)
Desired DC location (if applicable)
And of course, budget

Once you give us that stuff, we can actually get to recommending some options to you.

Traffic stats if you have any (uniques and/or total hits per day)
3,000 unique visitors/month
250,000 hits/month

5 GB

Monthly Bandwidth/Transfer
50 GB

# of Domains
1 domain

Windows or Linux
Linux

Control Panel Preference (if any)
C-Panel

Desired DC location (if applicable)
All clients are in the US, so US

And of course, budget
would like <$30/month

Reply With Quote Old Today, 02:48 PM Ask, what may I do for others? Thanks for the detailed specs. You're budget *almost* puts you in managed VPS territory, not quite, but your numbers don't really need you to be there yet, so staying with a high-powered shared or semi-dedicated account would probably be fine. Checkout Rochen for starters, or perhaps a semi-ded with MDD or Stablehost. The latter two are younger but have been developing great reps here as time passes (a few years' worth each). If you don't mind the additional config of a reseller account, 2 more options would be Dathorn and Cartika. Both are as good as you'll get for cPanel. You'll find 10+ years of WHT reps on them and Rochen as well.

Hope those suggestions help!

Now that I think about it, too, since you mentioned WordPress and you've got a healthy budget, if that's *all* you're thinking of hosting, you might also consider a dedicated WP host, such as WPEngine, ZippyKid, Page.ly, BlogDroid, etc. They specialize in making wordpress fly, and most do a pretty good job at it. Not sure if you'd prefer the freedom of a more vanilla account, but figured it's something to look at!

Reply With Quote Old Today, 04:15 PM Thanks for all the input. You guys rock.

I'm going to check them all out today and hopefully decide on someone by tomorrow.

My site is not in WP but just the blog is. I'm sure I'll have some questions and may PM some of you!

Reply With Quote Old Today, 04:46 PM Ask, what may I do for others?Cool, make sure you engage their sales and support people, over as many channels as you can. That will help you gauge the quality of their personnel across the broadest base of judgement. And rest assured, pretty much every name dropped so far is a sure bet, and you're budget is appropriate for at least three 9s, if not four 9s, of uptime. So everything is looking up! GL!
